The Governors of Frieth School
A welcome message from Jill Dean, Chair of Governors at Frieth School
Thank you for visiting the school website, and I hope you have enjoyed reading about all the educational and extracurricular activities which the pupils here enjoy.
Governors have three core strategic functions:
- To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- To oversee the Headteacher and hold them to account for the educational performance of the school
- To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent
In March 2022, the Governors held a board meeting to consider and review the future Strategy of the school. After the pressures on all schools during the Covid pandemic and with a new Headteacher in place, we felt it was a good time to look to the future. Many ‘post it’ notes on flip charts later, healthy positive and realistic debate, and greatly influenced by our overall school vision we unanimously agreed:

We have a total of 12 Governors, in accordance with our Instrument of Government.
We are not a faith school -we welcome children from all faiths and none! Whilst we have Christian beliefs and values at our heart we teach children about other faiths and to be respectful of differences.
Would you be interested in becoming a Governor in the future?
I am always looking to the future! Usually, Governors will serve for a period of 4 years with the option to extend for a further 4. We carry out a skills audit of Governors on a regular basis to ensure we have the skillsets we need to meet our responsibilities but no formal qualifications are required and our commitment to diversity is set out out below.
There is a time commitment – there are a minimum of 4 formal Full Board (FGB) meetings each academic year, and usually at least one further meeting where we review our strategy and progress. There are 4 core committees, Finance, Curriculum, Pay review and personnel. and Premises, Health, and Safety.

Our children are our future, and as a Governor you can make a vital contribution, in ensuring they get the best possible experience from their time at Frieth. The reward is to see the children develop and embrace the schools’ values which are to be -
