The Linking Network

The Linking Network inspires and equips schools to support children and young people to build meaningful connections across all kinds of differences.

We are delighted to be part of the project.  Children in Kites Class are very excited to be linking with a Year 4 class at Oakridge Primary School in High Wycombe.

Helen Giggins came into school to share her expertise on the project in an assembly.
Children from Hawks class were delighted to share what we have been doing so far.  We have received lettes and bunting from our link class at Oakridge school.  The bunting has a greeting, their name and  something they like to eat or do.  It's really going to brighten up our classroom and we have loved learning about our new friends!
We have also exchanged powerpoints, so we can see the similarities and differences between our schools. We are a rural setting while they are in the middle of High Wycombe.   We were surprised  how much space they had, their adventure playground looked really cool!
We have now had 2 video calls with our link class.  It was so great for the children to meet their link friends! They all had a turn introducing themselves and we played games together such as 'Would you rather'.
Curiosity Questions:
We came up with a list of curiosity questions to ask our link class to find out more information about them.  We were excited to discover that although we may have different religions, or have different hobbies, we still have lots of things in common.

Acts of Kindness:
Kindness is a universal value and one of our most important Frieth School Values.  As part of the project, we came up with an act of kindess that we could effect during the week ahead.  We wrote these on leaves and added them to our Kindness Tree in the classroom.

Next steps!
Each class is going to effect some form of Social Action   Hawks are going to organise a Mufti Day at school to raise awareness of and generate donations for the One Can Trust.  The children are going to be encouraged to undertake their own Social Action at home or at school, which they will report back to the class on.
