What is Collective Worship in our school?
Our Collective Worship is an expression of our school.
It reflects the backgrounds of the children in our school, some of whom are regular church goers, others have little or no Christian framework outside school, and some are members of other religions.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” Matthew 18:20
Collective Worship is the opportunity for:
Collective experiences and Individual experiences
It is an act of being with each other and for those who are Christian 'being with God'.
"Let your Light Shine!“
“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lamp stand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they see the good things you do."
Matthew 5:14-16
Collective worship takes place each day. It is led by our Worship leaders from our collective worship council, Reverend Andy Storch, Year 6 pupils, class teachers and the Senior leadership team. Before each collective worship assembly, a member of the collective worship council leads a call to worship.
Our worship leaders have responded to the views and ideas shared by their peers. They have developed a collective worship program that reflects our school vision and concepts which fascinate and inspire their peers.
Each Monday Year 6 lead a celebration assembly, named 'Let Your Light Shine'. The aim of the ‘Let Your Light Shine’ assembly is to celebrate the children’s achievements, thus highlighting where they have ‘let their light shine!’ as individuals, groups or classes, outside of the school/classroom or within it and to recognise children demonstrating our school values.
During the spring and summer terms we have ‘Class Assemblies’. These encourage reflection on a variety of themes such as current issues, a specific event or celebration, or the celebration of curriculum work. When possible, parents and governors are invited to attend these.
Is there anything we do in worship that helps us to ‘Let our light shine’?
“We light a candle to help us think about the good things we can do and are good at”.
"We listen".
"We are patient"
"We sing together".
“We talk about how we could let our light shine”
"We talk about how to be better”.
“We talk about how we can be a better person when we come out of assembly”.
“You tell us to keep it up”
“There is reflection time”.
“We talk about how to be kind”
“Year 5 got a chance to do it or not and lead the assembly”.
